WHEN ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL INTERESTS CLASH
Implementing policies or making decisions is easy when having ethnic or religious hegemony in a country, where the majority of the population shares the same values. The European Union has been very successful when it comes to the single market and common policies for the benefit of the entire population of member countries, which can be considered as a positive thing about the membership that some countries even today strive for.
Recent events in Ukraine and Bosnia show that is very hard to accomplish many things taking into consideration that both countries are not politically and ethnically hegemonic.
Political views often neglect economic needs of the population which can put in danger the population of a country regardless of the ethnic composition. Political elites consider often that is more important to mark a territory and say we have to be independent politically and shall not be controlled by others, avoiding economic responsibility toward the people which can make a country vulnerable to corruption and political manipulation.
Bosnia can be a good example when it comes to this case where political leaders do not work on economic prosperity of the country using the political crisis as an excuse.
The corridor Vc, that goes through the both entities in the country, is a crucial project for the economic development where corruption has also taken place.
As we all know, transport sector is very important for a development of a country in order to create jobs. Each region in Europe, as well as regions in Bosnia, has its assets and natural resources that can strengthen its economic position especially having transport network developed.
The question is why politicians of potential member countries, instead of working on crucial projects, have to bring the entire population to famine and poverty, just because of the difference among people, ethnically and religiously speaking, where the EU works on uniting people in their difference. Diversity should be an asset of each country and not an obstacle to economic development of the same.
